Be Thankful in All Things: 8 Verses About What It Means to be Thankful

On this very special week of Thanksgiving, I can’t help but reflect on my life. (I think it’s something we all tend to do this time of year.) Throughout the year, it’s easy to get caught up in busyness. It’s too easy to focus on life’s struggles and forget life’s blessings. But this is why I LOVE Thanksgiving. It reminds us to have a thankful heart.

God’s Word has a TON to say about thankfulness. The truth is that God desires for us to have thankful hearts all year long… not just during the month of November. In Him, we always have something to be thankful for! Even in the midst of trials and suffering, we have a hope in Christ that no one can take away from us!

Here are just a few of my favorite verses about being thankful:

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.1 Thessalonians 5:18

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.Hebrews 12:28

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.Colossians 2:7

And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.  – Colossians 3:15-16

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.Colossians 4:2

The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.Psalm 28:7

Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.Psalm 95:2

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.Psalm 100:1-5

As the holiday season approaches and life speeds up, let’s take the time to slow down and be thankful – to remember all that God has blessed us within our lives.

I pray that everyone has a blessed week as we praise God for His many blessings!

Happy Thanksgiving!
