When Your Life Is Spinning Out of Control
The perfect storm… it’s a term we use to describe a storm that is so beyond destructive, so meticulous in its design, that it is nothing short of perfection. This is not exactly the term you would want to use to describe your life. But unfortunately, many of us have been there. We look around at our lives and see a whirlwind of problems threatening to destroy us. So what are we as Christians to do when our life seems to be spinning out of control?
- Understand the difference between the “natural” and the “spiritual.” The Bible speaks often of the spirit realm. When we are born again, we are born of the Spirit. Spiritually speaking, we pass from death into life. Everything is different. But on the surface, we don’t appear any different. We are still a person in this world dealing the same problems of this world. Only now, the Holy Spirit lives inside of us. We fight our battles spiritually instead of physically.
So what does this all have to do with our lives spinning out of control? Well… everything. When our lives seem to be spinning out of control physically in this life, our lives are NEVER spinning out of control spiritually. Sure, we will encounter spiritual battles that are tough; but greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. The battle fought in Christ is always victorious.

- Remember Who our King is. Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. That means He is in charge. In fact, Jesus claimed to have ALL authority in Matthew’s gospel. Nothing that happens in this world is a surprise to our King. He knows all, sees all, and uses all to bring about His divine plan.
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” – Matthew 28:18
- Recognize that you have the key to stop spinning… your center… Jesus Christ. Growing up in the church, I’ve heard this analogy on numerous occasions. God needs to be the center of our lives. But what does this really look like in practice? Well for me personally, it’s about not allowing my life, my to-do list, or my wants and desires to distract me from what truly matters. Everything… and I mean EVERYTHING… should be about the Kingdom. When it comes to my relationships, my family, my job… all of it should bring glory to God.
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33
As a child of God, you are currently seated in heavenly places with Jesus. When life seems to be spinning out of control, we need to be diligent to rely on this truth. In Christ, you don’t have to live the chaos of the storm. You can rest in the peace that only comes from resting in the arms of your Savior.
Spiritually speaking, you are resting in the arms of your Father. So even when you’re life feels as if it’s spinning out of control, you can choose to dwell in His peace.
